sprinkles and cloud cover in santa rosa but things will change, we will break down the rainfall timing and first sal has an update on traffic. we have an accident on university avenue and fire crews and medics are on the way. the fire truck is just pulling up and lanes are open but traffic will be slowing down as you pass the scene and as we pull back you can see traffic is already backed up all the way to albany hill. what will happen is, some emergency crews will take up the lanes and soon we will have a bigger slow down. as you can see flashing lights are always bad for the commute especially when it is dark out there. 6:02 let's go back to the desk. it is a sad day of mourning as two fallen heros are laid to

happened in santa clara. it happened 1:30 this morning just north of the great america parkway. witnesses say the suspect's career ended a white pickup truck sending it barreling into a tree. the driver suffered major head injuries. the suspect has faced felony hit-and-run as well as dui charges. they are stunned to learn a young man was killed and the victim's body was found in guadeloupe park and he had been stabbed several times and he was in his 20s. several people no longer feel safe in their neighborhood where homes routinely sell for over a million dollars. investigators don't have any suspects at this time. a suspect is due to appear

in court, including assault weapons, bomb making materials and they said they would send a bomb threat and they found three assault weapons while searching his home along with explosive weapons. ktvu channel 2 morning news' brian flores is telling us about a vote this morning which has made north korea so angry, brian? >> reporter: it comes ahead of imposing new sanctions on north korea because of its nuclear tests. they are said to stymie the activity for those who funnel money as well as suspicious sea and air cargo and technology used to uranium enrichment.

tracker 2 radar and you can see the bulk of the rain is out to the west. we have been watching it over the last few days and they are showing potential tracks which mean a dry forecast and this area here will mean a wet forecast which is the eventual track. this is close enough to warrant shower chances and it will bring snow levels down to 1,000 feet. sprinkles are closing in and temperatures are off to a cold start. san jose is 41. once again this is a system we are watching basically skirting the coastline headed to southern california for today and we have a chance of a thunderstorm and snow levels are coming down to 1,000 feet. there is lots of clouds cover and in the afternoon we bump up

he helped the husband and the dog and everybody made it out safely. locally owned pet food express is matching the $10,000 reward from the police union and the officer's pet dog was poisoned last friday. while at the vet somebody stole items from his home and poisoned his police dog. the pet dog died and the police dog is recovering. 21 un police keepers are being held by syrian rebels. they say they will hold them until syrian troops withdraw from the area. the peacekeepers are from the philippines and they are trying to get a cease fires -- cease- fire along the border of the two countries. they are official

nomination was threatened. >> they joined him giving him a speaking break during the course of the night but there is no indication his confirmation is in any jeopardy. scott mcfarland, ktvu channel 2 morning news. a man was arrested for hitting and killing a 17-year- old girl. brewer appeared in court for the first time. his breathalyzer test was barely above the legal limit but he hit her when she was crossing saturday night. she had just finished celebrating her birthday with friends and he is facing up to 10 years in prison. subaru is recalling 70,000 vehicles because the engines can start on their own.

the problems are with the keys which have remote starters mean if they are dropped can start on their own. they are recalling many vehicles which can be found on the website. they are taking on muni's practice of kicking off some of their passengers before they reach their destination. they want to reduce the number of those switch backs. muni said they have to do it sometimes to stop a bus or train short of its destination when the roots get back -- routes get backed up. this disproportionately affects outlying areas. 6:19 is the time right now and sal is checking in on that crash and flowing traffic, sal?

holding on to rain showers and you can see all of this activity offshore and there is a little bit of some green on point ray but we have a better bet as we head to the afternoon hours. you definitely want to bundle up, right now hayward 43 and mountain view 44. there is the circulation right around point arena and this will be the source of a few more rain showers and we have the possible snow coming down and for the mountains of san bernardino and they could be approaching 5 inches. here is the forecast model and it does bring up shower chances and we will have scattered chances by four this afternoon. all showers will be approaching the coastline at that time.

claudine? >> reporter: we are just at the start where the procession will be but the line of cars is expected to stretch all the way down the screech towards the boardwalk which is down from where we are standing. 200 vehicles is expected to take part but that is just an estimate. i am here with the santa cruz sheriff's department and you said 200 are expected to start arriving and it could be longer, right? >> it could be longer and that's definitely an estimate and there could be other departments showing up. >> we know when something like this happens many come from across the nation, how do you organize something where so many people want to take part and pay tribute to these officers? >> it has been a long difficult road to work on something like this but we worked hard on this

and departments helped and that's a huge reason why it got transferred to the hp pavilion and a lot more people now can pay respects. >> we know there were private services earlier in the week as well, something like this, you said the procession stretches just two miles by itself, what do you want the public to know as it stretches 33 miles and it will go through a lot of communities before it arrives at its final destination. >> it will delay traffic but this will be a huge reminder of the sacrifice these officers gave to our community. people will be paying respects over bridges, kids waving flags, this will be the longest procession i have been in and this will be an example of dedication and their career here in santa cruz. >> thank you, deputies are

joining us and all our thoughts are with you and in the next half hour we expect some of the hundreds are beginning to line and you it is a big event to toward nate -- coordinate everything but certainly so many want to be part of this tribute. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> we continue with janine de la vega outside san jose where this morning's public memorial will be held, here is more. >> reporter: thousands of people are expected to show up at the hp pavilion for a day of mourning. officer elizabeth butler and sergeant loran butch baker are being remembered. sergeant loran butch baker was with the police department for 28 years and he leaves behind a wife and two sons who work for the department. officer elizabeth butler worked for ten years and leaves behind her partner and two young sons. they were gunned down during an

investigation and there has been such an outpouring that a develop how was not big enough. the pavilion can hold 20,000 people and they will reveal to us who will be participating at this service today. >> i am not giving the eulogy and others will do this and i will talk in more general terms about the law enforcement profession and our community and i'll say a few things about the officers themselves. >> reporter: the chief told us there will be law enforcement from all over the state and across the country and there will be a helicopter fly over and santa cruz native james dish bin at the requeses-- durbin at the request of the family. pamela harris and governor jerry brown are all coming to pay respect as well as leon panetta. coming up, we will tell you

more about these fallen officers especially one of them and what their special connection was here to the hp pavilion. janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> stay with us all day long for special coverage of today's memorial and the procession bring in santa cruz and our public memorial begins at 11:00 with the service then starting at noon. now to developing news in san francisco, 2 overnight stabbings are being investigated and they happened within blocks of each other. two separate investigations are happening, here is march? >> we understand one man is in critical condition and the other one is expected to be okay. it happened at 3:30 this morning, a man was stabbed and the other ran off.

his injuries are considered non- life threatening. earlier near mission street and 17th, violence broke out in an alleyway. a 32-year-old man was involved in a fight and was stabbed in the and demeant, we are -- abdomen and we are not sure how many times. the victim is still in surgery in critical condition. inspectors already arrested somebody who is being questioned at mission and we are waiting to hear if he will be arrested. he is described as latino. and the other suspects are described as latino and they to not believe the stabbing was gang related and police do not believe these two stabbings were related in any way. we will stay on top of both of these stabbings and let you know the condition of that

a few thunderstorms coming in place to about 3,000 feet so a bit of a dusting in the bay area hills. this forecast model is showing rain showers especially right near the immediate coast out towards san francisco and for this afternoon a good portion of the bay area, there is a chance of a thunderstorm, not as much and showers are rotating through the bay area moving in from the south and west, and for tomorrow lots of clouds cover. for tomorrow, 8:00, especially coast side and for the afternoon hours, we bump up chances 53 to 58 degrees for your afternoon highs. more cloud cover for your friday morning, temperatures are warming back up especially by sunday. >> time now 4:30, the storm may not reach the sierra, in fact here is a live picture

father of a woman killed by lion at cat haven which is a big cat sanctuary located 45 miles east of fresno. she was found inside the lion enclosure. she had been attacked by a lion named couse couse and she was volunteering at the park. yesterday we spoke to her father on the phone and he said his daughter gave him a tour of the park on new year's day. >> i got to meet couse couse but that place said they wouldn't let you go into the cages and she was disappointed she could not go into the cages. >> they are now investigating why hansen was inside the lion enclosure. they are investigating what caused the death of venezuela

in forest noel and this -- forest knolls and over the next hour i suspect there will be an increase especially in that part of the region. still it is cold, 30s and 40s, in santa rosa 36 degrees and san jose is starting out at 41 degrees. the satellite an area of low pressure, this will be the source of some rain showers for today and the possibility of some thunderstorms and in the next few hours, we have a chance of a thunderstorm and the cold air is coming down to 3,000 feet. here is our forecast and we have accumulating snow fall down to the south and the hills of monterey and san bernardino county up to about 4,000 feet. there is an increase in the rain showers and basically we will continue with that theme
